News, information, and assignments from Mr. Fletcher’s math class.

Absent/Late Work

Absent Work

It is the students responsibility to find out what he or she missed. The student should check this web page and/or phone a classmate. Once the student has completed the assignment, they must visit the instructor after school in order to grade and make corrections to their assignment. Mr. Fletcher will accept corrected absent work within a reasonable amount of time after the absence (not to exceed the total number of days absent.)

It is in the student’s best interest NOT to put off homework when he or she is absent. If an absence occurs and if at all possible, each student should attempt the homework assigned before returning to class.

How can they do an assignment if they were not in class?

  • all handouts are available for download
  • assignment posts often included links to tutorials
  • the textbook provides examples

What is the benefit of completing absent work prior returning to class?

  • students have a better idea of what is going on
  • students are able to get engaged in class immediately
  • students will have more success understanding new material

What is wrong with putting of homework a day or two after an absence?

  • students tend to procrastinate and fail to complete the assignments
  • students tend to focus on completion and miss out on the opportunity to review mistakes in class
  • students tend to waste valuable instruction time as the instructor reviews and corrects the previous assignment with the class
  • students who are not prepared with materials from the previous day disrupt class time when asking for them

Late Work

If a student does not complete an assignment, he or she will receive no credit. In most circumstances, late work will not be accepted.

Missed Tests or Quizzes

It is the student’s responsibility to know when they miss a test or quiz. When this occurs, the student is obligated to meet with the instructor after class to discuss when the makeup with occur. Students must make these arrangements on the day of their return. If a student fails to make such arrangements, they will loose the opportunity to take a make-up.

If a student is absent for one or two days before a test or quiz is administered, he or she will not be excused from taking it.
